In 1851 one hundred and fifty London house sparrows were captured and brought to New York. Against all odds, sixteen of them managed to survive the voyage, a ferocious first winter, and the attacks of local wildlife who resented these new immigrants.
This play with live music celebrates their adaptation to the New World — an adaptation so successful that these founding families now have over two hundred million direct descendants.
The epic tale will be performed by the sparrows themselves.
Directed by James Shearwood, the cast will include Rich O’Brien and a lot more to be announced.
Stage Manager: Carrie Ford.
Clinging to the Iceberg, which began Hutchinson’s connection to Arts on the Lake in March 2017, tells his story of writing for the stage and in Hollywood.
